Why did this get complicated?

We tried to make managing dance listings as simple as possible, but some complexity is necessary so the computer can display, sort, and search dances. Your feedback about the new site would be much appreciated, and we'll try to implement your suggestions wherever possible. Please send comments, questions, and suggestions by using the form below.

Why do I have to sign up and log in to enter dances?

This is a public web site, and we want to limit who is allowed to enter and delete dance listings. The people responsible for updating dances are asked to create accounts so we can verify that they are the ones making changes here. If you are having trouble with your account, please let us know by using the form below.

Entering Dance Listings

Dances are categorized as regular, special, and dance camps. A regular dance is one that occurs on a constant schedule, such as the First Friday PCDC Contra Dance. A special dance is one that does not occur on a constant schedule. A dance camp is an event that usually covers multiple days, like the Suttle Lake Dance Camp.

When entering a dance, please choose the category carefully, as different information is recorded for each.

Cancelling a Dance

Sometimes dances are canceled, for an entire summer, or for one night only. There are two ways to note that a dance has been canceled.

If a dance is already listed here, choose Cancel an Existing Dance Listing. If the dance has not been entered yet, but you still want to people to know that it has been canceled, choose Add a Canceled Dance Listing.

Editing Dance Listings

To make changes in a dance listing, choose Edit a Dance Listing. Anyone with an account can edit any dance, so please act responsibly when editing a dance you did not enter yourself.

Editing Names of Dances

The name of a dance, such as "Third Saturday Contra Dance," cannot be edited via the web once it is entered. Dances are identified to the computer by their names, and grouped by them. If one person entered "1st Friday Dance" and another person entered "First Friday Dance," the computer wouldn't know that they are the same dance and should be listed on the same page. Therefore, dance names have been pre-set and cannot be edited. If it's truly necessary to change a dance name, you can always delete a dance and re-enter it, or you can contact the webmaster by using the form below and ask for a manual edit.

Deleting Dance Listings

To delete a dance listing from the web site entirely, choose Delete a Dance Listing. Anyone with an account can delete any dance, so please act responsibly when deleting a dance you did not enter yourself.
